Employment Process

At Oakdale Irrigation District, we are committed to hiring qualified, skilled, and motivated individuals who are dedicated to serving the community and supporting the District’s mission. As an applicant, you will participate in a structured series of steps collectively known as the Employment Process. This process is designed to ensure a fair and objective evaluation of each candidate’s qualifications.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION

Prospective candidates must submit a completed online application along with any required documents (e.g., résumé, certifications) specified in the job announcement by the posted deadline. Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the final filing date will not be considered.

Please note:

  • A separate application must be submitted for each position of interest.
  • All information provided is subject to verification.
  • False, misleading, or incomplete statements may result in disqualification, removal from an eligibility list, or termination from employment.
SCREENING AND EXAMINATION

Applications are reviewed to determine whether the applicant meets the minimum qualifications outlined in the job posting. Qualified applicants may be invited to participate in one or more of the following evaluation methods, depending on the position:

  • Written examination
  • Practical skills assessment
  • Oral interview
  • Supplemental questionnaire review

The purpose of these evaluations is to assess the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the classification. Performance in these assessments determines eligibility for further consideration.

INTERVIEW AND SELECTION

Candidates who successfully pass the examination process may be invited to a structured interview. Final candidate selections are made based on a combination of assessment scores, interview performance, reference checks, and alignment with the District’s values and operational needs.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Prior to appointment, selected candidates must successfully complete the following:

  • Pre-placement physical examination, including laboratory testing and drug screening, conducted at the District’s expense.
  • Employment eligibility verification in accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (Form I-9).
  • Submission of any additional documentation as required by the Human Resources Department.

We suggest candidates not give notice to a current employer until the pre-employment process is complete and clearance has been provided.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

All newly hired employees serve a 6-month probationary period. During this time, performance is evaluated to determine continued employment. If performance is found to be unsatisfactory during this period, the employee may be released from service without the right of appeal.
